Chairs Report 2021-2022

Hemswell and Harpswell Village Hall AGM 3rd May 2022

Chairs report 2021-2022

Since the last AGM COVID restrictions have lifted and bookings and events have resumed in the hall.

The hall is mainly used by organisations external to the village – we have Spiritualists/healer, toddler group, trampoline fitness and Pilates running throughout the week and on a Saturday morning. We have very few bookings for parties etc.

The committee organises a monthly craft club, which although not well attended it is an enjoyable evening for those who attend, each attendee pays a small fee towards the cost of the hall.

Members of the committee have organised three coffee afternoons raising money for Macmillan. Marie Curie and Breast Cancer charities. These events have been well attended and guests have enjoyed looking through Mrs Steadman’s memory books. Money raised has been donaated to the charities, with villagers not able to attend making donations.

In November we held a shopping event with Lincs Shopping, this was well attended by people from the local villages.

The committee organised a village Christmas tree with help in funding this from the Parish Council.

At Christmas we organised a carol singing evening around the tree, this was a lovely event that the children enjoyed.

We held a couple of Christmas wreath making evenings, one was a free event and the other was an external teacher – both evenings were enjoyed by those who attended.

We are in the process of organising May Day, due to the current rise in the cost of living we are hoping to keep this a low-cost community event to provide a fun family day.

The village hall

The committee organised a Spring cleaning morning and asked for help from the village. We conducted a maintenance inspection and areas were identified as needing attention. Paul Watkinson compiled a list of works needed and contractors will be sourced and quotes obtained. The gable end wall is still waiting for pointing, Kevin Blow has been asked on several occasions to complete, we may need to source another builder.

The play area

Richard Marfleet has resigned from the grass cutting contract and we put this out to tender with a contractor being appointed, obviously this is at a higher cost than previously and we as a committee are concerned how we are going to fund this long term. We will look at this in 12 months time, and review the situation.
