Details of the proposed location of the Lincolnshire reservoir now available.
About the new reservoirs in Lincolnshire and the Fens
Anglian Water have released updates on the proposed new reservoir planned for southeast of Sleaford, about halfway between Grantham and Boston. It will be roughly the size of Anglian Water’s existing Grafham Water. The project plan is to create a new reservoir to support water supply to customers in the fast-growing Anglian region. It is said the proposals go beyond just building a new reservoir, creating new habitats for wildlife and places for people to explore, and exciting new leisure facilities for people to enjoy. You can download an initial concept plan for the reservoir here.
Anglian Water consider there is a need for two reservoirs to provide regional benefit to the east of England. The proposals are still at an early stage, and people will have plenty of opportunity to have their say as the plans progress.
Following a thorough and multi-stage site selection assessment process, Anglian Water have identified the best performing location for a proposed new reservoir in Lincolnshire. They report to already be in contact with those who own property and live within the proposed area and who will be potentially affected by our proposals so they have the opportunity to ask us any questions about what this might mean for them. The proposed reservoir in Lincolnshire would store water during winter when flows are at their highest for when it is needed. It is anticipated that the reservoir will be able to supply around 160 million litres of water per day to Anglian Water customers throughout the year. That’s enough to supply 500,000 homes.
