Councillor Handbook & Guidance

Information for existing members and those interested in becoming a council member.

The Good Councillor's Guide (2018). Published by the National Association of Local Councillors (NALC), the guide introduces the work of local councils and the part councillors play in the tier of local government closest to the people. It is divided into five parts to help both new and experienced councillors understand the work of a Parish Council and to explore the opportunities available to become active, interested and committed councillors to serve and get involved with our local parish. Roles and Responsibilities - Councillors, Chair, Clerk, Officers and Staff

Councillors and council 'officers' have different but complementary roles. This document summarises the different roles and responsibilities and should be read alongside the 'Good Councillor's Guide' and the Good Councillors series of publications published by NALC. The link will open the guide in pdf format (opens in a new browser window).

Please get in touch with the clerk for further handbooks and guidance.
